What Is Detoxification?
Commonly called detox, detoxification is to diminish or to remove the poisonous quality of any substance in the body’s internal systems and organs and to transform them to normal. Doctors say that toxins ingested into the body from our food, drug use, water and environmental conditions result to the growing of prevalence of both chronic and acute diseases.
Surprisingly, one of the largest sources of body toxins is the drugs people take to fight disease. Medicinal drugs are very strong—they have to be to overcome the body’s natural defense system. Reports say that almost every person is poisoned by deposits of heavy metals in the body. Lead, aluminum, copper and arsenic collect in organs throughout the body. Lead enters the body through auto exhaust, paints and canned foods. Aluminum may come from preparing or storing food in aluminum containers. Arsenic is present on sprayed foods, and so on.
Most of the other toxins in our body are the results of our own bad habits and behaviors. Drinking Alcohol, smoking, consuming too much of sugar and salt, less pure water intake and bad diets are some examples.
Practitioners of natural medicine believe that the accumulation of toxins in the body is a major cause of disease. Therefore avoiding of chemicals from food and other sources, tobacco, alcohol, caffeine, refined food, making dietary and lifestyle changes minimize your intake of toxins.
There are many benefits to detoxification of the organs of elimination within the body. The end goal of this process is to renew health, improve function, and increase vitality for the toxic person. For example, the colon will frequently become lined with waste material (fecal matter) creating a smaller canal for the passage of processed food and decreasing absorption of nutrients. The longer these toxic wastes stay in our bowels the greater risk of development in diseases in the colon possible. Most of the diseases usually begin with a toxic bowel/colon.
